Emergency?
Toothache?
We should see you!
Most things will get more painful and more expensive over time.
In the Meantime: (Consider the following extreme emergency Advise only. An evaluation in the office is required for proper diagnosis)
Broken Tooth
If you have broken a tooth, occasionally the pieces are useful; save them.
If there is a hole in your tooth, drug stores usually stock a temporary filling material that can serve as a temporary patch. This is a putty that is placed in the hole and sooths and protects the exposed dentin or nerve.
Trauma
If a tooth has been knocked out, it is important to take good care of it as soon as possible. If it can be repositioned and stabilized within 30 minutes, there is a better chance for it to be saved. The best you can do is to get it back in its proper position as soon as possible. Even if it has been completely knocked out of its socket, it is best to get it back in. Please attempt to not place dirt or other foreign matter in with it. Rinse it gently first. After the blood has begun to clot in the socket, repostioning the tooth to its original site may not be possible. if it cannot be repostioned, keep it moist in saliva (even just carrying it in the mouth), or in milk. If a dentist is not available, go to an emergency room.
Swelling
If you are swollen you should be on antibiotics.Until you can get in to the dentist place ice or some other cold pack on the cheek in the area of the swelling. This should feel better and keep some of the swelling down. If the swelling is draining puss, it may feel best to eliminate as much as possible my squeezing the area to drain the puss. This squeezing can be overdone. If it hurts, quit.
Broken denture
If a denture has broken, call us. Most dentures can be repaired. Some breaks will result in a weak spot that will always be unpredictable, and should be replaced rather than repaired.
Many drug stores carry a denture repair kit.
